Its great to see that even larger companies in the Czech Republic are starting to explore the quantum world. quantum companies or applied research or Concerns about the national quantum strategyAlso read:The Czech Republic does not have quantum companies or applied research or Concerns about the national quantum strategyQuantum computersIn mid-June I wrote about IBM announcing the first true quantum advantage. But I also wrote that we should wait to open the champagne.
And indeed there was a heated discussion especially on Twitter. Several preprints appeared Indonesia WhatsApp Number Data refuting IBMs claims. One example of "controversy". In the following paper the researchers emulated IBMs Eagle quantum processor using a tensor network and performed the same calculation where IBM claimed its quantum advantage. Well wow they achieved better results than the real Eagle quantum processor. So no real quantum advantage. On the other hand its not throwaway its another baby step to a real advantage.
Similarly last week Google announced a quantum computing advantage claiming that a classical computer would take years while Googles qubits only took a few moments. Unlike IBM this task is not practical at all so we should not even use the term quantum advantage . Again these are small baby steps but they are also important.Spain has completed the first phase of installing its first national quantum computer. The project is implemented by the Qilimanjaro-GMV consortium and the first quantum computer is located in Barcelona.
